Featured, News June 3, 2019, 0 Comment 0The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) welcomed the delegates from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of the People’s Republic of China who recently visited the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) for site inspection of storage facilities. NROC, DSWD’s main warehouse, currently stores the 200 metric tons or 4,000 bags of rice donated by China to the Philippines in April 2019.
The 4,000 bags of rice are part of the 200,000 bags that China has committed to extend to the Philippines for its disaster response operations.
DSWD Director Fernando R. De Villa, Jr., head of the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) which manages NROC, gave the Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Du Changlin, a tour around the warehouse. Director De Villa explained to Chinese delegates how the bags of rice were being stored properly. He assured them that the rice bags were and would be distributed to rightful beneficiaries. The Director also thanked the Chinese government for their generosity which would undoubtedly help families and individuals who are and will be affected by various disasters.
Mr. Changlin, for his part, assured the Department that the Chinese government would be willing to extend any help to the Philippine government. He further said that DSWD may coordinate with their embassy staff in the Philippines for any help to boost its disaster operations. -30-
