Over 1,000 indigent seniors from Batangas receive their pension from DSWD

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista reaches out to older persons who received their stipend during the payout for the Social Pension Program in Taal, Batangas.

In keeping with its mandate to uplift the quality of life of the poor, disadvantaged, and marginalized sectors of society, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office CALABARZON, conducted the payout of the P500 monthly stipend for indigent senior citizens under the Social Pension Program.

The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens is provided under Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 which specifies that seniors qualified to receive social pension are those who are frail, sickly or with disability; without any pension from other government agencies; and without a permanent source of income or source of financial assistance/compensation to support their basic needs.

A total of 1,117 beneficiaries from Taal, Batangas received P3,000 each covering their pension for the months of January to June during the payout at the Taal Central School on July 20, 2019.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista led the conduct of the payout to the beneficiaries.

Lolo Narciso, 71, and Lola Dionisia, 72, both from Barangay Buli, expressed their gratitude to the government, through DSWD, for the assistance that they received which augments their resources for their basic needs.

Lolo Narciso, 71, said “Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa inyo sa DSWD, sa biyayang ito na makakatulong pangtustos sa pambili ng aking maintenance medicines.”

For her part, Lola Dionisia, stated, “Kahit na maliit na halaga lamang ito, malaking tulong pa din para sa pambili ko ng gamot para sa aking diabetes.”

As of July 18, 2019, DSWD Field Office CALABARZON has validated 284,778 eligible beneficiaries in the region. -30-
