DSWD equips PWDs to be self-reliant
News, Persons with Disability July 6, 2016, 0 Comment 0Persons with disabilities (PWDs) from the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II in Cebu City, one of the non-residential facilities managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), learn cooking skills during a training workshop conducted by the Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD).
The Department partners with private corporations for the conduct of programs which equip PWDs with the necessary skills for them to have gainful employment and lead productive lives.
The 19 PWDs from AVRC, who are orthopaedically handicapped, partially blind and hearing impaired, were trained on various strategies and techniques in managing a food business. They also had hands-on cooking demonstration on “cochinta” and “binangkal” making; bread and cupcake making, and cupcake decorating.
The DSWD under the leadership of Secretary Judy Taguiwalo will focus on providing genuine care to all vulnerable sectors through initiatives that will enable them to stand on their own feet. ###
