DSWD continues to provide care, recovery assistance to Davao blast victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to monitor the needs of the Davao blast victims which killed 15 and injured 91 individuals.

Weeks after the Davao City night market bombing which shook the nation, DSWD has already conducted psychosocial interventions such as stress debriefing sessions to the survivors and their families as part of the comprehensive response of the Department.

DSWD has also extended crutches to three patients. It also continues to monitor the conditions of the 16 injured victims still under hospital care.

To date, the DSWD has provided a total of P293,000 in financial assistance to the injured victims and a total of P80,000 in burial assistance to the bereaved families. After care services to the victims, especially to those still recovering from their injuries are also given.

In addition, the Department also extended financial assistance to some traumatized individuals based on the assessment of DSWD social workers.

DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo vowed to continue providing the necessary psychosocial services to the Davao blast survivors as they move on from the effects of the bombing.

“Hindi natin pababayaan ang mga nabiktima at tutulungan hanggang masiguro natin na nakarecover na sila sa trauma ng nangyaring trahedya bilang tanda ng tunay na malasakit ng DSWD para sa pinagdaanan nila (We will not neglect the victims and we will help them until we know that they have recovered from the trauma of the tragedy.  This is the mark of genuine and compassionate service which DSWD espouses).” ###
