Boy whose mom was nabbed carrying Marijuana now under Grandma’s care
News September 30, 2016, 0 Comment 0The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that the four- year- old son of the woman caught carrying 10 grams of Marijuana in Naga City, Bicol is now under the care of his maternal grandmother and aunt.
The minor was previously taken to the Naga City Women Center for temporary shelter right after his mom was apprehended while attempting to bring Marijuana worth P60,000 to the city.
Immediately after learning of the presence of the child at the center, DSWD- Field Office V coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for his appropriate care and protection.
A CSWDO social worker and the Philippine National Police (PNP) of Naga City facilitated the entrustment of the child to his relatives who traveled from Baguio City after learning of the incident.
The Field Office will continue to coordinate with the LGU for updates on the boy and his mom who is presently detained at the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP) Naga City.
Meanwhile, DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo reiterated the readiness of the Department to provide assistance to surrendering drug abusers and kin of those killed in the anti-drugs campaign of the present administration.
The Secretary said that the Department provides assistance to families in need and not only those affected by the anti-drugs crusade through different programs and services such as the Sustainable Livelihood Program, and Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations which give financial help to those who require immediate burial, medical, education and transportation assistance.
Aside from these, medical treatment, recovery, and livelihood for recovering drug dependents are also offered especially those who will be taken to DSWD-managed centers and institutions. ###
