LGUs on top of disaster ops for families affected by ‘Habagat’ – DSWD
News August 3, 2017, 0 Comment 0As it continues to monitor the effects of the enhanced Southwest Monsoon in the entire country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) commends the efforts of local government units who are prompt in providing assistance to their affected constituents.
DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo reiterated that LGUs are the first responders in disaster operations. At the same time, she assured them that DSWD is ready to augment their resources when needed.
“The DSWD Central Office and its Field Offices remain on alert and ready to assist municipalities and cities in need of augmentation support if their resources are no longer enough for their affected residents,” Sec. Taguiwalo stated.
As of August 2, 11pm, A total of ₱196,222.48 worth of assistance has been provided to the affected families, of which, ₱51,452.48 was provided by DSWD while ₱144,770.00 was provided by local government units.
To date, there are 2,750 families or 12,329 persons affected in 113 barangays, of which 100 families or 437 persons are currently staying inside four evacuation centers in NCR, CALABARZON and CAR.
Meanwhile, 496 families or 2,200 persons are currently staying outside evacuation centers with relatives or friends in Regions I, III, and CAR.
It was reported that a total of 57 houses were totally damaged while 130 were partially damaged in Regions I, CALABARZON, and CAR.
The Disaster Response Assistance and Management Bureau (DReamB) of the DSWD is continuously coordinating with DSWD-Field Offices NCR, I, III, CALABARZON, and CAR for significant reports on assistance and relief efforts. ###
