To reinforce the implementation of Cash-for-Work (CFW) for families and individuals affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) issued Supplemental Guidelines which state that the rate of assistance for CFW beneficiaries will be increased from 75 to 100 percent of the prevailing regional minimum wage rate which is P290/day for the Bicol Region.

DSWD Officer-In-Charge Emmanuel A. Leyco stated,  “We increased  the rate of assistance as a response to the current conditions faced by Filipinos now in the evacuation centers and communities. The 100% rate of assistance will also give the evacuees the means to purchase basic necessities.”

The CFW is a short-term intervention implemented by the DSWD to provide temporary employment to distressed or displaced individuals by participating in preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation or risk reduction projects and activities in their communities or in evacuation centers.

Recently, DSWD, through its Field Office V, inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the local government units (LGUs) in the province of Albay for the implementation of CFW .

Under the MOA, each beneficiary will receive P290 per day for 10 days of work. The work that they will perform will be based on the need of the evacuation center where they are staying.

Participating LGUs will have to submit their project proposals  to DSWD Field Office V indicating the number of beneficiaries and the CFW activities that they will be doing. The proposal will be reviewed and validated by DSWD-Field Office V and will become the basis for the downloading of required funding. DSWD has allotted more than P60 million for the CWF project that is expected to commence this month. ###
