The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI is currently coordinating with the local government unit (LGU) of Davao City to monitor the situation of families affected by the flooding brought about by continuous heavy rains which started last May 29.

To date, 3,380 families or 16,695 persons were affected by the flooding incident, who are temporarily staying with relatives.

The LGU of Davao City has already extended services to the affected community by operating a mobile kitchen in Brgy. Panacan (San Miguel and Sunrise) and Davao Empress, Brgy. Sasa. They also provided food items for community cooking at Corcuera Malagamot, Brgy. Panacan and Purok 10 Hilltop Carmelite Road.

Acting Secretary Virginia N. Orogo commends the Davao City LGU for their prompt response to render assistance to the affected populace. “LGUs are the first responders during disasters, however, the Department is always ready to provide augmentation support.”

Sec. Orogo said that at this time, there is no additional assistance from DSWD as the LGU is capable and prepared in terms of resources and manpower.

The Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) of the DSWD-DRMB is continuously coordinating with DSWD-FO XI for significant reports on assistance and relief efforts. ###
